I have recently been in Italy and in a very good restaurant in Sicily I had a wonderful sweet wine which they said was a local specialty. The waiter said it was a Malvasia di Lipari (I guess this was its name) and also said this wine is produced in a small island somewhere near Sicily.
Is there anyone out there who knows this wine? Can you please tell me more about this wine and where I can find it in England?

You are almost right about the name. The correct spelling for this wine is "Malvasia delle Lipari" and it is mostly produced in the Salina Island, north from Sicily. The grapes used for this wine are Malvasia delle Lipari (which also makes most of the blend) and small amounts of Corinto Nero grape.
It truly is an excellent wine, enchanting and charming for its aromas and tastes. A very good wine!!

I too had this Malvasia di Lipari and I agree with you: it is a wonderful sweet wine. Excellent nose and enchanting taste. I bought here in the US in a mall and I am sorry I cannot help you as I do not know where you can find it in the UK. If you provide me your address I could arrange to ship a case to you...

I have never heard of this Malvasia di Lipari. Can you please provide more information about this wine. I am very fond of sweet wines so I am very interested in it!

All I can say is that I had this wonderful wine in Sicily and I fell in love with it!! I wish I could have some right now!
Talking about food pairing, I had this Malvasia di Lipari with a wonderful Sicilian dessert - cassata - which seems to be a popular dessert there. Unforgettable!!!

Can you tell more about this cassata dessert? I too have never heard about this Malvasia di Lipari. I will try to see whether I can find it here in Germany. Could you suggest a good winery making this wine?

Sicily is a great region, rich in culture and tradition, last but not the least, great food and wines. Cassata is one of the most popular desserts there and telling exactly what cassata is largely depends on the area you are talking about. The most classical cassata is made of ricotta cheese and candied fruit, as well as almonds and other good ingredients. Malvasia delle Lipari can certainly be an excellent pairing for Cassata! You should also try Marsala or Moscato di Pantelleria with cassata as well as "cannoli" (Sicilian rolls).

I think i have also tasted it in sicily only it was two years back, it was amber in color and with madirized taste.. i am sure it was Malvasia di Lipari only
