(Apulia) Il Macaro shows an intense garnet red color and nuances of brick red, moderate transparency. The nose denotes intense, clean, pleasing and refined aromas which start with hints of raisin, plum jam and fig jam followed by aromas of black cherry jam, caramel, date, vanilla, dried violet, tobacco and licorice. The mouth has good correspondence to the nose, a slightly tannic attack and pleasing sweetness, however balanced by alcohol, good body, intense flavors, agreeable. The finish is persistent with flavors of plum jam and black cherry jam. Il Macaro ages for 6 years in cask followed by 6 months of aging in bottle.
