Matteo Correggia: The Magnificent Roero of Arneis, Brachetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo
Perugia, Italy
Friday, November 13th, 2015
An event dedicated to Roero and the vintner who made it great, by writing the name of his territory in the Olympus of worldwide viticulture with his wines and his wine making revolution. Matteo Correggia was in fact the protagonist of the rebirth of Roero, by turning into reality the dream of making quality wines with no compromises. Wines such as Barbera d'Alba Superiore Marun and Roero Roche d'Ampsej are the proof of the greatness and wine making vision of Matteo Correggia, continued today by the will of his wife Ornella Costa and the talent of wine maker Luca Rostagno. The event dedicated to Matteo Correggia had as protagonists six wines, expression of Arneis, Brachetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo of Roero. To the event took part wine maker Luca Rostagno - who worked with Matteo Correggia for more than one year - and talked about the characteristics and viticultural potentials of Roero and the wines made in the winery of Canale. The event starts with one of the most famous wines of this territory - Roero Arneis 2014 - the famous white berried grape strongly associated to this territory and allowing Roero to be known all over the world. It is then the turn of a wine of remarkable personality - Anthos 2014 - offering a particular interpretation of Brachetto, vinified as a dry wine according to the traditional style of Roero, capable of expressing the typical exuberance of this variety well supported by a vibrant and pleasing crispness. The event continues with the first of the three wines produced with Nebbiolo - Roero 2013 - an agreeable wine in which the strong character of the famous Piedmontese grape joins a remarkable elegance and an excellent wine making result. It is then the turn of Barbera d'Alba Superiore Marun 2012, a wine of very good elegance, one of the first which allowed Matteo Correggia to be known worldwide and, still today, is one of the most significant wines of this winery. The event continues with Nebbiolo in one of the typical expressions of this territory - Roero La Val dei Preti 2012 - in which can be appreciated the extraordinary elegance well matched to the typical structure and character of this grape. The event ends with one of the most famous wines created by Matteo Correggia, a wine who wrote his name in the history of Italian wine making and with which he was successful in surprising the world: Roero Riserva Roche d'Ampsej. A magnificent Nebbiolo with a strong personality and structure to which is joined a well balanced crispness and a charming roundness, one of the best expressions of Roero. The event has been a tribute to Matteo Correggia, one of the most significant figures of wine in 1990s and, thanks to his dream and will, proved - before anyone else - the great potentials of Roero, by walking the difficult way of quality with no compromises and with which he was successful in changing the future of his land and his wines.
