Rocca delle Macie: Morelino di Scansano and Chianti Classico

Rocca delle Macie, in less than 40 years from its foundation, has been successful in conquering a strong reputation in the wine scene of Tuscany, Italy and worldwide. Among the main representatives of the Chianti Classico area, Rocca delle Macie is also involved in the Maremma area in the production of the renowned Morellino di Scansano. To the event took part dr. Sergio Zingarelli - CEO of Rocca delle Macie and vice president of Chianti Classico Consortium - who told the history of his winery, as well as illustrating the production of the five wines tasted in the course of the evening. The first part of the event has been dedicated to Rocca delle Macie's production of the Maremma area, by exploring the crispness and minerality of Occhio a Vento 2009, among the most representatives whites of the winery and produced with 100% Vermentino, therefore continuing with Morellino di Scansano Campomaccione 2009, produced with Sangiovese and a small part of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, completely vinified in steel tanks. The second part of the event has been dedicated to the production of the Chianti Classico area, in a tale having as protagonists three excellent wines. The first one was Chianti Classico Riserva 2007, made from Sangiovese grape and a small part of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, allowed to age for 2 years in cask, one of the most appreciated wines of the evening. The event continued with one of the most representative wines of Rocca delle Macie - Ser Gioveto 2005, produced with Sangiovese and a small contribution of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged for 14 months in barrique - an excellent wine with a good complexity as well as an excellent balance in its remarkable organoleptic qualities. The event ended with another traditional wine of the area, Vin Santo del Chianti Classico 2005, produced with Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca grapes, aged for more than three years in the traditional "caratelli" barrels. The sensorial tasting of the wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana - DiWineTaste chief editor - who also created, as usual, the dishes paired to Rocca delle Macie wines.
