Since three generations Demarie family is committed to the production of wines of langhe and Roero, cultivating in its vineyard the typical varieties of these territories only, in particular Arneis and Nebbiolo. The event dedicated to the wines of the winery of Vezza d'Alba, in the heart of Roero, has in fact had as protagonists the wines of this territory, giving participants the chance to better know this interesting area of Piedmont langhe. The account of Roero wines has been narrated by Paolo Demarie, representative of the third generation and commercial manager of the winery, who focused on the characteristics of the territory as well as the viticultural and wine making differences with the other langhe's areas and Alba. The evening started with two wines produced with Arneis grape - the typical white berried variety of Roero - giving two interpretations, the first one in sparkling style, Roero Arneis Metodo Classico For You 2010, the second one vinified as dry, Roero Arneis 2013, a preview tasting reserved to this event. The two following wines are produced in the wider "Denominazione d'Origine Controllata (DOC)" area of Alba, fruit of the two most famous red grapes of Piedmont: Barbera and Nebbiolo. The first one of the reds is Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2011, a wine of remarkable agreeability in which the character of the variety is fully expressed, with its vibrating crispness and exuberance of aromas. It then follows Nebbiolo d'Alba 2011, aged in cask like the previous one, a wine of good complexity which offered participants the chance to understand Demarie winery's vision for the famous red grape of langhe. It is then the turn of the most representative and celebrated wine of the winery of Vezza d'Alba: Roero Riserva 2009. A wine of strong personality, joining the power of Nebbiolo to the finesse and elegance typical of this territory, confirming the remarkable versatility of langhe's Nebbiolo, a variety with a very strong bond with this land. The event ended with Birbet 2013, produced with Brachetto and partially fermented in closed tank, expressing the typical aromas of the grape as well as a balanced sweetness and effervescence. The tasting of the wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana who has also created, as usual, the dishes paired to the wines of the event.
