Terre Cortesi Moncaro: the excellence of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Rosso Piceno and Conero
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, January 24th, 2019
The second part of DiWineTaste events, after the break at the end of the year, resumes with an exceptional winery, one of the main protagonists of the viticultural and wine making scenario of Marches and Italy. Winery embracing different territories of the region, Terre Cortesi Moncaro of Montecarotto, in the province of Ancona, is among the wineries of the region to have contributed to the enological impulse of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Conero, Piceno and Offida areas. The five wines selected for this event, in fact, have well represented the territories in which Terre Cortesi Moncaro is present, with excellent results acclaimed both in Italy and in the world. The story of the territory, the grapes and the peculiarities of the wines of the winery of Montecarotto was curated by Giuliano d'Ignazi - wine maker of Terre Cortesi Moncaro - who, with competence and immediacy, illustrated the characteristics of his wines to the participants of the event. The event started with Verdicchio dei Castelli of Jesi Classico Le Vele 2018, an immediate and direct white, capable of perfectly introducing the potentials of the great white grape of the Marches, with elegant and intense aromas, as well as a taste of good personality. The evening continued with one of the flagship wines of Terre Cortesi Moncaro - Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Riserva Vigna Novali 2014 - a Verdicchio of enormous personality and that, after five years from harvesting, shows both a youth and a remarkable crispness, in addition to a power joined to an impeccable elegance. It is then the turn of the two red wines of the evening, starting with Rosso Piceno Superiore Campo delle Mura 2011, a powerful wine fruit of the blend of Montepulciano and a small part of Sangiovese, aged in cask, expressing fruit-like sensations with pleasant tertiary notes given by time. The evening continued with Conero Riserva Vigneti del Parco 2011, produced with 100% Montepulciano, also in this case aged in cask, which offered an extraordinary opportunity to understand the potentials and the differences of this fascinating red grape in the two territories. Vigneti del Parco, thanks to the peculiarities of the territory, tends to express more spicy nuances while having clean and intense aromas unequivocally reminiscent of red and black pulp fruits. The event dedicated to Terre Cortesi Moncaro ends with one of the absolute protagonists of the scenario of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi area: passito Tordiruta 2011. Charming and fascinating wine, benefits from the precious contribution of noble rot - the famous Botrytis Cinerea - confirming the enological versatility of Verdicchio which, in Tordiruta, expresses class and elegance of extraordinary quality, certainly among the best sweet wines from dried grapes produced in Italy. The sensorial tasting of the wines was conducted by Antonello Biancalana who also took care - as usual - of the creation of the dishes paired the wines of Terre Cortesi Moncaro.
