Endrizzi: the magic of Trentodoc bubbles and the elegance of Trentino wines
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, September 20th, 2018
The eighteenth season of DiWineTaste events started with a very welcome return of one of the most prestigious and significant wineries of Trentino - Endrizzi - listed in DiWineTaste Wine Guide since many years now, with the participation of Drs. Paolo and Christine Endrici. The event dedicated to the famous winery of San Michele all'Adige has also been the occasion for better understanding the expression of one of the most celebrated varieties of Trentino - Teroldego - reaching its most excelled expression with Gran Masetto, wine of extraordinary class and elegance. Paolo Endrici introduced the participants to the discovery of grapes and territory from which are made Endrizzi wines, particularly focusing on the philosophical and enological principles making their production. The event, and therefore the eighteenth season, started with the elegance of Trentodoc Brut Riserva Piancastello's bubbles vintage 2013, produced with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, also taking advantage of four years of aging in bottle on its lees. The evening continued with one of the last born wines at Endrizzi winery: Dalis Bianco 2017. Fruit of the research and efforts of Daniele and Lisa Endrici - sons of Paolo and Christine - Dalis Bianco is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Nosiola for a result of immediate agreeableness in which are mainly perceived the aromas of the two French grapes. The event continues with Masetto Bianco 2016, historical white wine of Endrizzi, produced with Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Rhine Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, aged for few monts in cask, a wine capable of join complexity to the class of grapes making it. It is then the time of tasting the two red wines of the evening, starting from Masetto Nero 2015, the historical and flagship red wine of Endrizzi and based on the ancient family formula created more than one century ago: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Teroldego. This red, aged in cask and barrique, perfectly expresses the wine making philosophy of Endrizzi: complexity joined to a remarkable agreeableness. It is then the turn of Gran Masetto 2013 - notable flagship wine of this winery and awarded since many years with DiWineTaste five diamonds, including this vintage - in which can be appreciated the highest expression of Teroldego. Powerful wine of extraordinary cleanness, Gran Masetto is produced with Teroldego only and in part dried, followed by an aging in barrique, with an intense and deep color, smooth tannins and sumptuous class. The event ended with Masetto Dulcis 2016, an amazing and refined explosion of aromas given by Yellow Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, as well as a magnificent balance between sweetness and crispness. The sensorial tasting of Endrizzi wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana - DiWineTaste chief editor - whom has also conceived, as usual, the dishes paired to the wines and made by Locanda dei Golosi's kitchen led by Chef Emiliano Buccolini.
