Tenute Silvio Nardi: Brunello di Montalcino, Manachiara and Poggio Doria
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, December 11th, 2014
An evening dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino, a unique chance to understand the differences of this famous territory of Tuscany, unfolded by three expressions of Sangiovese cultivated in different terroirs. After four years, a new event having as protagonists the wines of Tenute Silvio Nardi, one of the most important wineries for the production of Brunello di Montalcino. To the event took part Emilia Nardi - owner of Tenute Silvio Nardi - Michela Fiorucci, public relation manager, and Francesco Cristofaroni, area manager for Italy. Participants to the event listened to the story of Tenute Silvio Nardi and their commitment to research on Brunello di Montalcino, told by the precious speeches of Emilia Nardi, who also explained the territorial and micro climatic differences of vineyards in which is being cultivated their Sangiovese grapes. An evening mainly dedicated to Sangiovese in the expressions of Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino, including Moscadello di Montalcino, historical wine made from Muscat Blanc and made in this territory since many centuries. The event starts with Rosso di Montalcino 2013 - a preview tasting reserved to this event - a pleasing introduction to the characteristics Sangiovese can express in this territory. The event continues with three Brunello di Montalcino wines, offering the chance to understand how the differences of a territory can give different wines, despite the vintage and variety are exactly the same. The first one was Brunello di Montalcino 2009, made from Sangiovese grapes cultivated in different Tenute Silvio Nardi's vineyards, a wine of a full character and a refined expression of the typical qualities of Sangiovese well supported by an impeccable cleanness. It is then the turn of the two territorial expressions of Brunello di Montalcino, both of 2007 vintage: the renowned Manachiara - from grapes cultivated in the vineyard having the same name, exposed to south-east - and the rare Poggio Doria, produced with grapes cultivated in vineyards exposed to south-west. The comparison of the two wines offered a high educational chance, allowing the understanding of how different soils and expositions affect the organoleptic qualities of a wine. The event ended with Moscadello di Montalcino 2010, made from late harvested Muscat Blanc grape, elegant and refined, it joins the typical aromatic intensity of this variety to a well balanced crispness, giving a wine of remarkable finesse. The dishes paired to the wines of Tenute Silvio Nardi have bee created by Antonello Biancalana and made by Locanda dei Golosi's kitchen, led by Chef Emiliano Buccolini.
