Ricci Curbastro: the Noble Bubbles of Franciacorta
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, February 24th, 2011
An evening confirming, once again, the greatness of Franciacorta and having as protagonists the noble and excellent bubbles of Ricci Curbastro Winery located in Capriolo. An event which told the remarkable versatility of this famous territory in five wines, from Brut to Demi Sec. To the evening took part dr. Riccardo Ricci Curbastro - managing director of the winery of Capriolo - who explained to the participants the production phases of Franciacorta and the grapes from which take origin its bubbles, from vineyard to bottle. Remarkable interest has been shown for dr. Riccardo Ricci Curbastro's speech about the history of Franciacorta and the characteristics of the territory, an amazing account which let participants understand the passion this winery puts in each bottle. The five Franciacorta wines presented in occasion of this event have been tasted in enogastronomical matching with dishes expressly created by Antonello Biancalana for each wine, with the primary goal of let participants understand the versatility of Franciacorta, a very good ally of the table and not a wine to be uncorked in holidays only. The event started with Franciacorta Brut - from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes - followed by the first vintage wine of the evening, the excellent Franciacorta Extra Brut 2006, produced with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in equal parts: an example of elegance and impeccable balance crowned by a remarkable, however pleasing, crispness. It is the the turn of one of the most renowned and celebrated wines of Ricci Curbastro winery, Franciacorta Satèn 2006, produced with 100% Chardonnay, charming for its creaminess and roundness, accentuated by a lower pressure in bottle: the Franciacorta of the evening most appreciated by the over one hundred participants. The event continued with another famous style of this territory, Franciacorta Brut Rosé, in which it is the Pinot Noir grape to show its best expression with pleasing aromas of small red berried fruits. The proof Franciacorta is well suited to the table, as a wine capable of matching a whole meal, from appetizers to desserts, ended with the Demi Sec style - Ricci Curbastro in among the few wineries of the area to make this particular style - which, with its pleasing sweetness, has magnificently ended this event dedicated to one of the most important and successful wine areas in Italy.
