Marco Curto: Barolo, wines from Langhe and Alba

The evening dedicated to the wines of Marco Curto winery at La Morra, culminated with the tasting of two extraordinary Barolo wines, has successfully ended DiWineTaste events for the year 2009. An event which allowed, among the other things, the understanding of the richness of Langhe and the expression of the territory from which these wines originate, produced with principles essentially based on authenticity and typicality. Among the choices adopted by Marco Curto winery, the one of not making use of selected yeast and to exclusively make use of indigenous yeast of the place. To the evening took part Ms. Nadia Curto - owner of the winery and daughter of Marco and Adele Curto - who told participants the history of her winery, the characteristics of the territory of La Morra and of its grapes. The evening started with the most classical wine of Langhe, a wine representing a daily food-mate in this land, Dolcetto d'Alba Gattera La Foia 2008, entirely produced in steel tanks. It then followed another classic grape and wine of Langhe and of Piedmont, Barbera d'Alba La Foia 2007, aged for few months in barrique. The evening is then continued with the queen of the grapes of Piedmont, mother of the great wines of Langhe: Nebbiolo. The journey in the noble piedmontese grape started with Langhe Nebbiolo La Foia 2007, aged for two years in cask and which allowed participants to understand the main quality of this extraordinary grape, before tasting the "wine of kings, king of wines": Barolo. The tasting of this great wine from Langhe started with the youngest of the two, Barolo La Foia 2004, aged for two years in cask and for two years more in bottle, a good example of elegance followed by the excellent Barolo Arborina La Foia 1999, expression of a more complex and mature Barolo. The tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana - chief editor of DiWineTaste - who also created, as usual, the gastronomic matching with dishes expressly created for each wine and made by Locanda dei Golosi staff led by chef Emiliano Buccolini.
