An evening dedicated to the wines of Asti and Nizza Monferrato, among the best expressions of Barbera, the famous red grape from Piedmont, today among the most important varieties of the region and of Italy. Not only Barbera, but also the other celebrity of Asti, Muscat Blanc, presented for the occasion with the sweet wine Sileo. Mr. Valerio Mondo - owner and wine maker of the winery protagonist of the event - has told participants about the characteristics of his territory, Barbera and the six wines tasted in the course of the evening. The event started with the only white wine of the evening, Monferrato Bianco Di.Vino 2010, produced with Cortese, Chardonnay and Favorita grapes, partially aged in cask, followed by Barbera d'Asti 2010, completely vinified in steel tanks. This wine, with its spontaneity and freshness, has in fact expressed the characteristics of Barbera, emphasizing its typical crispness of acidity. The event continued with Barbera d'Asti Vigna del Salice 2010 - a wine of fuller body and complexity, aged in cask - in which the typical crispness finds in roundness a good balance, while keeping the typical agreeability of the famous red grape of Piedmont. The fourth wine, again, has Barbera as protagonist, in which is added a late harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, in the expression of Monferrato Rosso Di.Vino 2009 - also in this case aged in cask - a wine of good body in which roundness and structure of the Bordelais grape adds a balance to the crispness of Barbera. Among the most appreciated wines in the course of the event was Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza Vigna delle Rose 2007, a wine of remarkable elegance and personality, expression of Nizza Monferrato, a territory of high expression in which Barbera finds one of its best expressions. The event ended with Piemonte Moscato Passito Sileo 2003, produced with dried Muscat Blanc grape - aged in cask - giving a wine of remarkable elegance and body.
