Fattori: from Durello and Soave to Amarone della Valpolicella
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, April 18th, 2013
After three years we met again Antonio Fattori and his wines. Three years ago in the winery of Terrossa di Roncą, in province of Verona, were mainly produced white wines only, today the production has been increased with sparkling and red wines. Antonio Fattori, wine maker and owner of the winery, has the quality of the initiative and, in particular, the tenacity of continuously experimenting and understanding, both in vineyard and winery, while widening his own horizon that, of course, becomes new wines. After having reached levels of excellency with his white wines, in particular with those of the territory of Soave, in just three years Antonio Fattori has added to his production sparkling and red wines from Valpolicella, including a magnificent Amarone that, in its first vintage 2007 has conquered DiWineTaste Five Diamonds. The evening has been the occasion to rediscover the white wines of Fattori winery to which has been added the news ones. It has been Antonio Fattori - who took part to the event - to tell participants about his new viticultural and wine making undertaking, a story that, besides words has found a full appreciation in the glasses. The event started with a surprise, a wine not included in the event program, the latest creation of Antonio Fattori, a wine inspired from the Northern European style, a surprise for its name itself "Vino Senza Nome" (wine with no name), of pleasing crispness balanced by a proper sweetness and an alcohol by volume of just 9%. It is the the turn of Lessini Durello Spumante I Singhe 2011, made from Durella grape and produced with a long Charmat method, in which the typical crispness of the grape is in good evidence for a glass of pleasing elegance. Roncha 2011 is the third wine of the evening, union of five different wines and produced with Garganega, Pinot Gris, Trebbiano di Soave and Durella grapes, followed by one of the winery's flagship - Soave Motto Piane 2011 - among the best white wines of this territory, a wine in which an indisputable elegance meets a full body. The event continues with the first of the two red wines, Valpolicella Ripasso Col de la Bastia 2010 - made from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Teroldego grapes - a wine taking advantage of the refermentation on Amarone's pomace, thus making a wine of interesting organoleptic complexity and full body. With the same grapes is also produced Amarone della Valpolicella Col de la Bastia 2010, among the most appreciated wines of the evening, with a pleasing and round character, of good elegance promising a glass of rich future and in evolution. The event ended with Recioto di Soave Motto Piane 2010, a classic wine of the territory and produced with Garganega grape, with enchanting aromas of raisin and dried apricot, with an impeccable sweetness kept in balance by a pleasing and vivid crispness.
