An event which gave the chance to taste and meet excellent wines as well as talking about an amazing story of recent viticulture and wine making of Italy. A story having important protagonists such as Paola Di Mauro - among the very first women of Italy committed to wine - Gino Veronelli, unforgettable wine writer, and Giorgio Grai, one of the most influential wine makers of Italy. Colle Picchioni, interesting winery near Rome, is in fact the dream of Paola Di Mauro turned into reality and which made her one of the most significant figures of Italian wines, capable of making wines which certainly did not go unnoticed. To the evening dedicated to Colle Picchioni took part Valerio Di Mauro, grandson of Paola and today owner of the winery with his father Armando, who shared with participants the beautiful story of his winery and the many illustrious figures who met and discussed in the course of the time around the bottles of wines made by his grandmother. The event started with Collerosso 2013 - made from Merlot, Cesanese and Cabernet Sauvignon wines - an immediate and direct wine, having remarkable agreeableness. It is then the turn of two important Colle Picchioni whites, the first one being Donna Paola 2013, dedicated to the founder of this winery, in which Trebbiano Giallo, Malvasia del Lazio and Sémillon give life to a rich wine, of pleasing aromas and having a remarkable elegance. Also the second wine of the event - Le Vignole 2011 - is characterized by the same elegance, in which Sauvignon Blanc replaces Sémillon, is a magnificent example of how a white wine can evolve with time while having a pleasing complexity and keeping elegance and crispness. It is then the turn of reds again, starting from Perlaia 2013, pleasing interpretation of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine having a very good agreeableness as well as a good olfactory and gustatory balance. The event ends with the indisputable flagship wine of Colle Picchioni: the famous and celebrated Il Vassallo 2011, produced with a traditional Bordelaise blend and aged in barrique, is the wine that, more than every other else, brought the name of Paola Di Mauro and her winery around the world. Il Vassallo - name which replaced today "Vigna del Vassallo" - has always been considered an excellent example of elegance and finesse, among the best red wines of Latium, expression of the potentials of this land. The tasting of wines, as well as the creation of dishes paired to Colle Picchioni wines, has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana.
