Birra Flea: Gualdo Tadino water meeting barley and hop
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, June 5th, 2014
Birra Flea: the history of Gualdo Tadino and its famous water meets Ceres and become beer. Four different styles for four different beers, accounted by master brewer Rolando Della Sera, who explained to participants the productive characteristics of his beers and the project from which take life the production of Birra Flea. Four different styles - all paired to dishes created for each beer - have proven how the beverage of Ceres can be an excellent companion of the good table, not only of pizza. The event started with Bianca Lancia - produced with barley and wheat malt, with the addition of orange zest and coriander - an immediate and crisp style, aromatic and pleasing. It is then the turn of Costanza, a special blonde ale, in which it is perceived a stronger hop aroma, however balanced, with a pleasing crispness and aroma. The third beer of the evening has been Federico II - named after the famous king and emperor of Swabia - a strong ale based on IPA style (Indian Pale Ale) and in which can be clearly perceived the important contribution of hop and its characteristic bitter personality. The event ended with Bastola, a strong red ale, with a more robust character and with a pleasing flavor of caramel, a characteristic being evident also to the nose and to which are added pleasing toasted aromas. The beers protagonists of the evening have been paired to dished expressly created by Antonello Biancalana, who has also conducted the sensorial tasting of each beer.
