A pearl of the Italian enology. Moscato di Terracina, produced in the homonym and emerging Denominazione d'Origine Controllata area of Latium, it is becoming more and more successful both for its amazing and charming aromas, as well as for its versatility in wine making. This event - dedicated to the very aromatic wine from Latium - has in fact confirmed the potentials of this grape in interpreting different wine making styles, thanks to the wine of Sant'Andrea winery, in province of Latina. The wonders of Moscato di Terracina have been unfolded to DiWineTaste readers by Andrea Pandolfo - owner, together with his father, of Sant'Andrea winery - whom focused on the history of this grape and of the winery, illustrating, for each wine, the viticultural and wine making differences and qualities. An evening having in fact as protagonists five wines made from Moscato di Terracina and in different styles, from bubbles to a sweet wine made from dried grapes. The only "alien" wine of the evening, however very appreciated by participants, a red wine fruit of the blending of Merlot and Cesanese. The event started with Oppidum Brut 2017, produced with the Charmat method in order to keep the exuberant aromatic power of Moscato di Terracina. A wine of pleasing effervescence capable of perfectly introducing the world of aromas of this aromatic grape. The event continued with one of the most representative wines of Sant'Andrea winery - Moscato di Terracina Secco Oppidum 2018, a preview tasting reserved to this event - a wine of refined elegance in which can be clearly perceived the aromatic profile mainly expressed by fruits, including exotic ones. The third wine, undoubtedly, has been the absolute protagonist of this evening, giving to the participants sensorial qualities of remarkable complexity and class, also fruit of the time and the magic happening in the hills around Terracina. In the glass has in fact been poured Moscato di Terracina HUM 2014, aged in steel tanks. This wine in fact offers a new vision of Moscato di Terracina potentials which - after about five years - give the nose very complex aromas in which can be perceived strong sensations of aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean, with complex and intense aromas of fruits. The tasting of HUM 2014 reveals his huge personality, a body generally not found in wines produced with Muscat grapes, rich and full, it certainly is the best label produced by Sant'Andrea winery. The fourth wine gives a break from the charming aromas of Moscato di Terracina, by coloring the glasses with an intense red. Sogno 2013 - the only red wines of the evening - produced by blending Merlot and Cesanese, aged in cask and barrique, perfectly joins the quality of both grapes, giving a wine of good personality, interpreted between the roundness of the famous French grape and the crisp and spicy touch of the red grape from Latium. It is the the turn of the most typical style of this appellation - Moscato di Terracina Amabile Templum 2018 - in which sweetness becomes well perceptible in the mouth, perfect to be paired to desserts. Templum confirms the aromatic power of Moscato di Terracina, rich in aromas of yellow and exotic fruits. The event ended with Moscato di Terracina Passito Capitolium 2015, produced with the homonym dried grape and then vinified in steel tanks. Charming, of good balance between crispness and sweetness, Capitolium has offered another proof of the versatility of Moscato di Terracina, in a crescendo of aromas and undeniably elegance. The sensorial tasting of wines has been conducted, as usual, by Antonello Biancalana, DiWineTaste chief editor, who has also created the dishes paired to the wines of Sant'Andrea winery.
