An interesting journey into the viticulture of Romagna according to the wine vision of Massimo Masotti and Fattoria Ca' Rossa. The evening dedicated to the winery of Bertinoro, in province of Forlì-Cesena, has in fact had as protagonists the two main varieties of the territory of Romagna - Albana and Sangiovese - as well as Barbera, Albarossa and Cabernet Sauvignon. Massimo Masotti - owner of Fattoria Ca' Rossa - spoke about his personal vision of how Albana and Sangiovese should be interpreted in this territory, a choice that, in particular, required the rejection of Albana di Romagna DOCG disciplinary. The event started with Placidia Secco 2013, made from 100% Albana, giving the wine a particular expression of this variety from Romagna as well as a good character. The production in fact provides for the use of overripe and slightly dried grapes, which skins are allowed to macerate in the must, in order to make an Albana with a remarkable structure and body, as well as a fruity olfactory profile. It is then the turn of Cavalcaonte 2013, made with Barbera and Albarossa grapes, vinified in steel tanks, a direct and immediate wine, with a good balance between the typical crispness of these two varieties and a pleasing roundness. It then follows the flagship wine of Fattoria Ca' Rossa, a good expression of Sangiovese's potentials in this territory, well supported by a long aging: Sangiovese di Romagna Superiore Riserva Ripagrande 2007. A wine which is about to turn eight, however showing an interesting organoleptic evolution, with a complex nose and however allowing the perception of Sangiovese; a robust wine, however elegant, certainly promising a long life ahead. The evening has also been the occasion to taste another wine aged for a long time and not produced by Fattoria Ca' Rossa anymore: Cesubeo 2001. A wine made with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small quantity of Sangiovese and Barbera, after fourteen years it still shows a bright appearance and with no signs of color decay, to the nose offers complex aromas and to the mouth has a full structure and well supported by a pleasing crispness. The event ended with Placidia Dolce 2013, made with overripe and dried Albana grape, produced with partial fermentation of must, a characteristic giving the wine a charming sweetness. The sensorial tasting of wines, as well as the creation of the dishes paired to the wines of Fattoria Ca' Rossa, has been coducted by Antonello Biancalana.
