Among the most prestigious and representative wineries of San Gimignano area, the evening dedicated to Giovanni Panizzi's wines allowed participants to understand the famous Vernaccia di San Gimignano and the red wines produced in this area. To the evening took part Dr. Giovanni Panizzi who told participants how his choices based on quality allowed his wines - and in particular Vernaccia - to reach very high levels. Giovanni Panizzi, who is also the president of the Consortium of San Gimignano Denomination, has shown the quality of his winery by presenting five wines: two whites and three reds. The evening started with Vernaccia di San Gimignano 2007, a vintage wine aged in steel tanks which allowed participants to understand the characteristics of this white berried grape, followed by Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva 2005, aged in barrique. The evening continued with the first of the three red wines, Chianti dei Colli Senesi Riserva Vertunno 2005, made from 100% Sangiovese grapes, and then San Gimignano Cabernet Sauvignon Rubente 2005, both being very appreciated by participants. The ending part of the event was assigned to the excellent San Gimignano Rosso Folgòre 2002, among the most representative wines from Panizzi, which, despite was produced in a not very good year, has however shown 2002 was also capable of giving interesting wines and of good value. The tasting of wines was conducted by Antonello Biancalana, who also created - as usual - the dishes matched to wines and made by Locanda dei Golosi's staff led by Chef Emiliano Buccolini.
