The event dedicated to the wines of Gianni Masciarelli's winery, unforgottable vintner from Abruzzo, has worthly ended the season 2008-2009 of DiWineTaste events with the tasting of five wines in which Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano grapes have been the absolute protagonists. To the event took part Mrs. Marina Cvetic, wife of Gianni Masciarelli, who told participants about the characteristics of the wines presented in the course of the event and a touching memory of her husband. The evening began with Villa Gemma Bianco 2008, one of the most renowned white wines of this winery, produced with Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Cococciola and Chardonnay, completely vinified in steel tanks. The event continued with Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Cerasuolo Villa Gemma 2008, produced with 100% Montepulciano grape and aged in steel tanks, followed by the excellent Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Castello di Semivicoli 2006 - the last born wine in Masciarelli winery - an interesting and excellent wine produced with late harvested grapes and longly aged in steel tanks. It was then the turn of the two red wines of the evening which expressed two different styles of vinifying Montepulciano grape. The first one, completely aged in steel tanks, was Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Masciarelli 2006, followed by the impressive Iskra 2003, an excellent wine produced with Montepulciano grapes cultivated in vineyards located in Controguerra area, aged for 12 months in barrique and for some years in bottle. The enogastronomical matching and the tasting of the wines has been done, as usual, by Antonello Biancalana, chief editor of DiWineTaste.
