The season 2009-2010 of DiWineTaste events ended with the great wines of the emerging Umbrian winery Roccafiore of Chioano di Todi. Led with passion by Luca Baccarelli and by the competence of the talented wine maker Hartmann Donà, Roccafiore certainly is one of the most interesting viticultural firms of Umbrian wine scene. Roccafiore is a project involving - among the many - wine with the goal of enhancing the typical Umbrian varieties, such as Grechetto, Trebbiano Spoletino and Sangiovese. At the event took part Luca Baccarelli who told participants about the Roccafiore project and the wines produced in his winery. The event started with Bianco Fiordaliso 2009, entirely vinified in steel tanks and fruit of the union of Grechetto di Todi and Trebbiano Spoletino, the two most renowned white berried grapes of Umbria, a wine of elegant agreeability and crispness. It has then followed Fiorfiore 2008, produced with 100% Grechetto di Todi and aged in cask for 12 months, an excellent example of how this grape can give wines of great class and in which Grechetto finds an elegant union with the roundness of wood. The first red of the evening was Rosso Roccafiore 2007, produced with 100% Sangiovese and aged in cask, a pleasing wine in which the crispness of this variety is fully expressed. It has then followed the new red of Roccafione - Prova d'Autore 2007 - fruit of a long experimentation and made from Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Sagrantino grapes, the latter slightly dried before being vinified. Wine of a full and rich personality, of pleasing roundness and power, Prova d'Autore ages in barrique for two years. The event ended with Collina d'Oro 2009 - a vintage in preview tasting for the occasion of the event - produced with Golden Muscat, a quite unusual grape for the green Umbrian hills, charming for its sweet and crisp character, in perfect balance. The tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana who also created, as usual, the dishes served in enogastronomical matching with the five wines.
