Talking about Lungarotti winery means talking about the history of the wine of Umbria and of a fundamental period which marked the rebirth of wine quality in Italy. Talking about Lungarotti winery also means talking about the history of one of the main wine lands of Umbria - Torgiano - and of its illustrious founder, dr. Giorgio Lungarotti, among the main protagonists of the Italian wine scene, among the first ones to support and promote the quality of the wines of his land. The event dedicated to the wines of Lungarotti winery had as protagonists the classic wines of Torgiano area, as well as the new wine interpretations of Umbria and the fruit of the new estates in Montefalco. To the evening took part dr. Francesco Zaganelli - public relation manager of Lungarotti winery and son of dr. Teresa Severini - and mr. Augusto Mercuri, commercial manager of the winery of Torgiano. The event started with Lungarotti Brut Metodo Classico 2005, produced with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, refermented in bottle for 36 months. The evening continued with Torveto 2008, produced by the union of Chardonnay and Vermentino grapes from Torgiano and Orvieto areas, from which takes its name, an elegant wine of pleasing crispness and roundness. It is then the turn of the second white wine of the event, one of the historical labels of Lungarotti, Torre di Giano Bianco Vigna Il Pino 2007, made from Trabbiano Toscano and Grechetto grapes, fermented and aged in barrique for 6 months. The evening continued with the two red wines of the event, the first one being Toralco 2007, from the areas of Torgiano and Montefalco, produced with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the autochthonous Sagrantino, aged for 10 months in barrique. It is then the turn of the most renowned and celebrated wine of Lungarotti winery, historical wine representative of its territory: Torgiano Rosso Riserva Rubesco Vigna Monticchio 2005, made from Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero grapes, aged for 12 months in barrique, excellent example of elegance and finesse, the most appreciated wine of the evening. The event ended with the last born in Lungarotti's Montefalco estate: Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito 2007, produced with the homonymous grape and aged for 18 months in barrique. The wines have been tasted in enogastronomical pairing with dishes created for each wine by Antonello Biancalana, who also conducted the sensorial tasting of the six wines of the event.
