Cantine del Notaio: the excellence of Vulture wines
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, November 15th, 2012
Vulture told by the extraordinary knowledge and culture of dr. Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti, owner and wine maker of Cantine del Notaio of Rionero in Vulture, in province of Potenza. The evening dedicated to Aglianico and Vulture has been in fact enriched by the brilliant, amazing and interesting Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti's account about this important grape and its territory, whom illustrated, not only the quality of the grape and the territory, but also the history of this important variety. Cantine del Notaio - among the main protagonists of Aglianico del Vulture - is also the winery which had the credit for relaunching the image of the territory and its wines, also significantly contributing to viticultural and enological research. In this winery Aglianico finds diversified expressions and of high value: from white and rosé sparkling wines, to sumptuous red wines produced with overripe grapes. The evening has in fact allowed the appreciation of Aglianico in its many wine making styles, starting from La Stipula Brut Metodo Classico 2009, excellent example of balance between effervescence and elegance, produced with Aglianico vinified in white and then refermented in bottle. It is then the turn of Il Preliminare 2010, a white wine produced in steel tanks, in which Aglianico - vinified in white - joins Malvasia Bianca, Muscat Blanc and Chardonnay, giving a wine of pleasing crispness and aromatic richness. The event continued with Il Rogito 2010, in which Aglianico is vinified in rose, with a variable maceration between 12 and 24 hours, to which follow 12 months of aging in wood: one of the best rose wines of Italy. It is then the turn of the flagship wine of Cantine del Notaio, the wine which relaunched the prestige of the grape and of the territory in Italy and in the world: Aglianico del Vulture La Firma 2008, a wine awarded with five diamonds by our tasting committee, a wine of remarkable structure and extraordinary sensorial richness: a stunning and fantastic wine. The event ended with L'Autentica 2007 - also awarded with five diamonds - sweet and perfectly balanced by a precise crispness, one of the best sweet wines made from dried grapes produced in Italy. Cantine del Notaio wines have been paired to dishes expressly created for each wine by Antonello Biancalana, who also conducted, as usual, the tasting of all wines.
