Salento, the great wine land of Apulia, has been told in this event through the wines of Cantele Winery of Guagnano (Lecce) located in the production area of Salice Salentino. The Cantele family is involved in the world of wine since 1950 and in 1979 began the commercialization of their wines, and in 2000 they established the new headquarter in Guagnano. The evening has been dedicated to the different styles traditionally produced in Salento, including rosé, a wine representing in Apulia an important aspect of wine making and which should be better known. The evening started with Fiano Alticelli 2009, a variety existing in Salento since the times of Frederick II, a very pleasing wine which caught the interest of participants. The event followed with Chardonnay Teresamanara 2008, in part aged in barrique for 8 months, an example of good balance between tertiary qualities and the varietal character of the grape. Salento is a land of rosé wines, therefore a wine belonging to this style had to be present in the event: Negroamaro Rosato 2009, vinified in steel tanks, very pleasing and well appreciated. The event followed with the first of the red wines of the evening, Salice Salentino Rosso Riserva 2007 - a vintage presented in preview tasting in this event - produced with Negroamaro and a small part of Malvasia Nera, very balanced, also in this case, in the character given by wood, 6 months in barrique. The event ended with the flagship red wine of Cantele Winery, Amativo 2007, result of the union of Primitivo and Negroamaro - the two great red berried grapes of Apulia - well blended by the aging in barrique for 10 months. The tasting of the event have been conducted by Antonello Biancalana who also created - as usual - the dishes presented in enogastronomical pairing with Cantele wines.
