The season 2015 of DiWineTaste events starts with one of the most important wineries of Montefalco which contributed, with other wineries as well, to the success of Sagrantino in the Italian and worldwide scene. The event has in fact had as protagonist the prestigious Antonelli San Marco winery and its Sagrantino wines, to which have been added Grechetto dei Colli Martani and Montefalco Rosso. To tell the story of this winery and how the wines are made was Filippo Antonelli, who emphasized the productive philosophy of his wines, from vineyard to bottle. The evening started with Colli Martani Grechetto 2014 - a preview tasting reserved to this event - crisp and lively, this wine already shows the good potential of vintage 2014 and in which the characteristics of Grechetto are well perceptible. The event continues with Montefalco Rosso 2011 - made from Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Merlot and Montepulciano grapes - a pleasing red wine joining the crispness and elegance of Sangiovese and Sagrantino power, expression of Antonelli San Marco's philosophy in wine making and in the use of wood. It is then the turn of three Montefalco Sagrantino wines, beginning from the one historically produced by this winery and belonging to vintage 2008, a confirmation of the elegance the famous grape of Montefalco can get with time, when the strength of tannins gets milder and are smoothed by a pleasing and balanced roundness. Montefalco Sagrantino Chiusa di Pannone 2007 too - more robust and powerful of the preceding wine - shows the remarkable potentials of this wine may have with time and, after seven years, in the glass can be well appreciated for its typical power perfectly integrated to an austere roundness, a great wine deserving DiWineTaste five diamonds. The end of this interesting evening has been dedicated to Montefalco Sagrantino Passito 2008, with a charming sweetness and roundness, to which it is opposed the strength of Sagrantino's generous tannins, important and fundamental for its balance. Thanks to its peculiar quality, the "passito" of Montefalco is one of the few sweet wines capable of having a remarkable enogastronomical versatility, from succulent meat to desserts made of chocolate, as well as hard cheese. The tasting of wines has been led by Antonello Biancalana who has also created the dishes paired to Antonelli San Marco's wines.
