The events of 2014 begin with one of the most prestigious names of Italian enology and Montalcino. Castello Banfi, established in 1978 by Mariani family, is in fact one of the most important wineries for Brunello di Montalcino, as well as being committed to the production of wines in other areas of Tuscany and Piedmont. To the event took part Michela Dominici - trade hospitality manager and event planner of Castello Banfi - who, after eight years, accounted the wines of Banfi winery to DiWineTaste readers. This in fact was a new event dedicated to Castello Banfi, following the one of May 2006. After eight years many things have changed, in particular two wines produced in Tuscany. The evening started with the only wine produced in Piedmont - Banfi Brut - a classic method made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes, refermented in bottle for 24 months: agreeable and crisp, the right compromise between complexity and immediacy. It is then the turn of La Pettegola 2012 - a new wine from Banfi winery - produced in Maremma from Vermentino grapes, expressing the typical crispness of this variety as well as an interesting aromatic profile: it certainly has been one of the wines better appreciated by participants. Also the third wine belongs to the new production of Castello Banfi in Tuscany: Bolgheri Rosso Aska 2011 made from Cabernet Sauvignon and a small part of Cabernet Franc, aged in wood, expresses the power and elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon to which is added the typical herbaceous sensations of both varieties. The end of the event was dedicated to Montalcino and its wines that, historically speaking, better represent the enology of this territory. The first of them is Brunello di Montalcino 2008: good expression of Sangiovese grape aged in barrique and cask. Powerful and robust, in this Brunello di Montalcino can also be perceived the typical crispness of Sangionese, making the wine very balanced. The evening ended with Moscadello di Montalcino Florus 2011, produced with Muscat Blanc grapes - locally called "Muscadello" - a wine produced with late harvested grapes and in part aged in barrique: sweetness and crispness meeting in a perfect balance. The tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana who has also created, as usual, the dishes paired to the wines of the event.
