Avvoltore and Morellino di Scansano are just two wines identifying the prestigious Moris Farms of Massa marittima, renowned winery of Maremma area. Among the first wineries to give notoriety to Morellino di Scansano, Moris Farms is also among the first wineries to make a wine belonging to the so called "Super Tuscans", still today a reference for its category: Avvoltore. The event dedicated to the wines of this historical wineries of Maremma - established by the Moris family more than 200 years ago - had as protagonists also the other typical wines of the territory. Mr. Giulio Parentini - owner and managing director of Moris Farms - has told participants the territories from which are harvested the grapes of the wines. In particular the area of Monteregio di Massa Marittima, emerging wine area of Maremma in which are produced interesting white and red wines. The evening began with the only white wine of the event, Vermentino 2011, produced with the homonymous grape and a small part of Viognier, a wine of remarkable personality and character. The evening proceeded with the first of the three reds of the event, Morellino di Scansano 2010, a wine which always had identified the famous wineries of Massa Marittima, among the first ones to be committed to the production of wines belonging to this appellation. It is then the turn of Monteregio di Massa Marittima 2009, excellent representative of this emerging wine area, aged in barrique with an impeccable balance between the crispness of Sangiovese and the power of Cabernet Sauvignon. Third wine of the evening, Avvoltore 2009, the prestigious flagship wine of Moris Farms, produced with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, also in this case aged in barrique, among the most appreciated wines of the evening. The event ended with Scalabreto 2009, produced with 100% late harvested Montepulciano grape and aged in barrique, with a pleasing sweetness and well supported by proper crispness and astringency. The tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana who also created the foods paired to the wines of Moris Farms.
