Letrari: the elegance of Trento wines and Talento
Perugia, Italy
Thursday, March 15th, 2012
Six wines to tell the territory and passion of Lucia Letrari for Talento and the wines of Trentino. Three Talento Trento DOC and three red wines have been the protagonists of the event dedicated to the historical Letrari winery of Rovereto established in 1647 and still today important reference for the enology of Trentino. Letrari is notable for its wide production, in particular Trento DOC bubbles, wines capable of expressing emotions and elegance. The first part of the event has in fact been completely dedicated to the Talentos produced by Lucia Letrari, fruit of the union of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The event started with Trento Talento Dosaggio Zero 2008, a rare example of Talento produced without adding any liqueur d'expédition, a sparkling wine that, in its remarkable elegant complexity, allowed participants to understand the style and class of the winery from Rovereto. The event continued with a wine which can be considered the most representative and renowned one of Letrari winery: Trento Talento Brut Riserva 2007. This sparkling wine - awarded with five diamonds by DiWinetaste - has been fully appreciated by participants, a wine of impeccable performance, a perfect balance between the elegance of Chardonnay and structure of Pinot Noir. The last Talento of the evening has been characterized by a pink hue in the expression of Trento Talento Brut Rosè 2008, a crisp and direct sparkling wine with pleasing aromas of wild berries. The second part of the event has been dedicated to three red wines, starting from Marzemino, among the most famous grapes of Trentino and, the legend goes, a wine particularly appreciated by the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wine of remarkable personality, Trentino Marzemino Selezione 2010 by Letrari fully expresses the character of this grape with its aromas of red fruits and flowers, a wine completely vinified in steel tanks. It is then the turn of Trentino Cabernet Franc Riserva 2006, among the rare example of Italian wines produced with 100% Cabernet Franc, aged for a long time in cask and then in bottle, it is a wine fully expressing the character of the famous Bordelaise grape, in particular for its vegetal aromas: a wine of remarkable elegance and balance. The event ended with another famous red grape of Trentino - Moscato Rosa - a variety hard to cultivate and to vinify, however exuberant with its intense aromas of flowers and pleasing sweetness. The tasting of the wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana who also created, as usual, the dishes paired to the wines.
