A great evening dedicated to the wines of the volcano produced in one of the most interesting wine areas of Italy - Basilicata - expressed by the magnificent wines produced by Carbone Winery of Melfi - in the province of Potenza - located in the Vulture area. To the evening took part Ms. Sara Carbone - ower of the winery and run with her brother Luca - who explained to participants the characteristic of her territory, the influence of Vulture in viticulture and in wines, as well as Fiano and Aglianico grapes. The event hes been mainly focused to the great red from Basilicata, an unique occasion in which has been possible to closely understand the characteristics of this grape in the expression of three excellent wines. Not only Aglianico, but also Fiano. It is right from a wine produced with this grape the event starts - the only white wine produced by Carbone winery - excellent expression of Fiano enriched with the typical minerality of Vulture's soil, a full bodied and elegant wine in which are expressed the typical aromas of Fiano, as well as more complex sensations. It is however the Aglianico to be the protagonist of this event, produced by Carbone winery in three different and interesting styles. The first one to be tasted is Aglianico del Vulture Terra dei Fuochi 2009, vinified in steel tanks, a wine allowing the clear perception of Aglianico's typical acidity, also thanks to the modest astringency of this particular style. The event continues with Aglianico del Vulture 400 Some 2007, aged both in barrique and in cask, a robust and full bodied wine, in which is clearly expressed the typical power of primary characters of the great red from Basilicata: acidity and astringency. The event dedicated to the knowledge of Aglianico ends with the flagship wine of Carbone winery, example of magnificent balance, power and elegance - Aglianico del Vulture Stupor Mundi 2007 - awarded by DiWineTaste's tasting committee with five diamonds. Aged in cask, this wine produced with grapes from the oldest vineyard of thew winery - 40 years old - gives the full character of the territory and Aglianico, as well as an extraordinary complexity, both to the nose and to the mouth. A great wine which received the highest appreciation from the participants to the event. The tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana - who, in this occasion, celebrated the publication of DiWineTaste issue number 100 - also creating, as usual, the dishes of the pairings and made by Locanda dei Golosi's kitchen led by chef Emiliano Buccolini.
