Pietramore: The biodynamic expression of Trebbiano, Cerasuolo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Perugia, Italy
Tuesday, December 6th, 2016
The expression of the main grapes and territories of Abruzzo through the biodynamic philosophy of Antica Tenuta Pietramore of Ancarano, in province of Teramo. To represent Abruzzo have been the lands in the province of Chieti and Teramo with wines produced with Pecorino, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano grapes, varieties representing the wine making glories of this region. The evening started with Extra Brut Martinotti Trebbiano 2015, therefore refermented in closed tank, giving an interpretation of character offered by the white variety of Abruzzo, joining roundness and crispness to joyous bubbles. The event continues with Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Superiore 2014, vinified in steel tanks, a wine of good body however letting the typical qualities of the white from Abruzzo to properly express with a result of pleasing crispness. The third wine of the evening color again the glass of white with Abruzzo Pecorino Superiore 2014, also in this case vinified in steel tanks, with a nose expressing the typical sensations of this variety to the aging on lees, for a result of good body well fused to a pleasing crispness. The color changes and glasses get a pink color with Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Superiore 2015, produced with Montepulciano and vinified in steel tanks, a wine perfectly introducing the characteristics of the red from Abruzzo, with aromas recalling cherry, raspberry and strawberry, giving a pleasing crispness. The evening ended with Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva 2013, a valuable interpretation with a full body, this wine benefits from the eighteen months of aging in barrique. A powerful wine and having a personality, this reserve of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo joins roundness of time with structure, offering interesting possibilities of pairing at the table. The sensorial tasting of wines has been conducted by Antonello Biancalana - DiWineTaste chief editor - who has also created the dishes paired to Pietramore wines and cooked by Locanda dei Golosi's kitchen staff led by Chef Emiliano Buccolini.
