The new event dedicated to Tenuta Cocci Grifoni wines has been an interesting journey to the territories of Offida and Piceno, narrated by the wines of the well known winery of Ripatransone, in province of Ascoli Piceno, Marches. To the evening took part Dr. Paola Cocci Grifoni - owner and wine maker of the winery - and Dr. Giulio Brandimarti, marketing and public relations manager. Dr. Paola Cocci Grifoni talked about the important job of reevaluation of local varieties, including Pecorino - reevaluated by her father Giulio, among the leading figures of the wine scene of Piceno - as well as the peculiarities of varieties Passerina and Montepulciano in the territories of Offida and Piceno Superiore. The event started with Passerina Spumante Brut Gaudio Magno 2013, made with Martinotti method, a wine capable of proving the interesting versatility of this white berried variety, giving to the glass pleasing and elegant aromas of flowers. The event proceeded with one of the flagship wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, Offida Pecorino Colle Vecchio 2013, result of the intense reevaluation and experimentation job done by the winery of Ripatransone in the 1980s, led by Guido Cocci Grifoni. It is then the turn of the two reds of the evening, expression of Rosso Piceno, noticing that - right in this winery - was produced the very first bottle of Piceno Superiore DOC vintage 1969. The first of the two reds has been Rosso Piceno Superiore Le Torri 2010, made from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes, a wine of pleasing elegance, in which can be perceived the contribution of Montepulciano and its typical personality. More austere and robust, Rosso Piceno Superiore Vigna Messieri 2008, among the most representative wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, highly emphasizes both the wine making style of this winery, with exclusive use of large casks, and the potentials of Montepulciano grape in the Piceno territory. The event ended with the grape which started the evening, in this case a sweet style, Terre di Offida Passerina Passito Prosit 2011, proving, once again, the versatility of this variety even in this style. The sensorial tasting of wines, as well as the creation of dishes paired to the wines of Tenuta Cocci Grifoni, has been led, as usual, by Antonello Biancalana.
